Exit Interview with the George W. Bush Talking Smiley
For nearly three years now, the Bush talking smiley has been living the high life, having been sent hundreds of thousands of times in instant messages and embedded on blogs and websites. But now? He might as well hang with the 2008 New Year smiley. The reign is over.
How does he feel about the situation? About George W. Bush? Here now, my surprising interview with the George W. Bush talking smiley one day before Barack Obama takes over the presidency.
It's been quite a run. So what's next for you?
Like George W. Bush himself, I'm a type A personality. So I expect I'll be back working in a week or so.
Back working?
Just because Bush is no longer president doesn't mean he's going to stop saying stupid things in public.
How do you feel about the end of Bush's presidency?
In a word? Fantabulistic.
Really? Even though it's sure to force you into an early retirement?
Listen, he's a nice guy and all. But we all know it's time for change. I'll be fine - I had a number of amazing years of exposure with Smiley Central. That's sure to get me work on future CouponBug late night commercials, or as a judge on American Idol.
You've become very popular with millions of Smiley Central users for Bush's inane rhetoric. How do you feel about that?
Hmmm. Uh... well, I prefer to think that I'm one of the funniest talking emoticons Smiley Central has in its collection. If it's by accident, well so be it. That's sort of how Bush got to the big house in the first place.
I do regret his OBGYN speech, though. Although I'm still impressed he spelled OBGYN correctly in front of an audience. People don't talk about that, but good for him.
Do you think people have been unfairly harsh on Bush's ability to speak in public?
Here's the thing. He speaks all day long. Often, using many words at once. And so he's going to say his words awkwardly sometimes. It's just going to happen, and with him it usually happens with a microphone and a lot of TV cameras in front of him.
I hope the American people will understand, though, that while Bush was faced with a lot of difficult words during his presidency, he didn't shy away from making up even more difficult words. Many of which even he didn't understand. So that's something.
